JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

Regal Boats is seeking a motivated Automation Engineer to design, develop, and implement automation and control solutions within our FRP boat manufacturing operations. This role will collaborate with design, engineering, and production teams to develop reliable automated systems that improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, safety, and overall process performance.

System Design and Integration:

  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to understand automation requirements and objectives.
  • Operations design and workflow studies within our manufacturing buildings.
  • Detail-oriented to maintain a diverse workload throughout various manufacturing disciplines.
  • Familiarity with FRP material applications and boat-building systems to maintain our high-quality standard (preferred).

2. Software and Hardware Development:

  • Create and program software for automation control systems, utilizing industry-standard programming languages and tools.
  • Develop hardware interfaces for sensors, actuators, and control panels, ensuring seamless communication and integration.
  • Test, debug, and optimize automation software and hardware to ensure reliable and efficient performance.

3. Testing and Validation:

  • Design and conduct thorough testing of automated systems to validate their performance and safety.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise during testing and validation phases.

4. Documentation and Training:

  • Prepare detailed documentation for automation systems, including technical specifications, user manuals, and maintenance procedures.
  • Provide training and support to internal teams, including production on the operation and maintenance of automation systems.

5. Innovation and Research:

  • Stay up to date with the latest automation technologies, trends, and best practices in the marine industry.
  • Identify opportunities to innovate and improve automation systems to enhance boat functionality and customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in ECE, Mechatronics, Automation, or an engineering-related field.
  • Preferred experience in designing and implementing automation systems, preferably in the marine or automotive industry.
  • Proficiency in programming languages for industry applications.
  • Familiarity with industry standards for automation and control systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • CAD software experience, including Rhino and Solidworks.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration abilities, able to work cross-functionally with various teams.
  • Experience with microcontrollers such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and other Wi-Fi-enabled devices preferred.
  • Prior experience with FANUC robots is a plus.
  • Prior experience with boat manufacturing is a plus.
  • Conversational English.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Strong project management skills, including a demonstrated track record of successful projects and implementation
  2. Knowledge of Roboguide, PaintTool General Industry, and related systems.
  3. Must be a team player and work closely with other Regal team members
  4. Strong relationship builder and a strong personal desire to win
  5. Highly motivated self-starter and deadline-driven
  6. Ability to multitask and work cross-functionally
  7. Team player mentality, but able to work independently as required
  8. Strong interpersonal, listening, questioning, and communication skills (written and oral)
  9. Energetic, proactive, and focused
  10. Proficient in Google G-Suite or Microsoft Office software suite
  11. Interest in automation as a Hobbyist
  12. Bilingual

Work Environment
Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature, reaching over 100 degrees Fahrenheit at times.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend at the waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time. The employee is frequently required to climb into and out of the boats using stairs. The employee must frequently be able to lift 50 pounds, work 10-hour days with most of the time being on their feet, and work overtime, whether planned or unplanned.
