Backend Software Developer

Overview

In this Backend Software Engineer role, you will develop mission-critical software to support defence and security outcomes. You’ll translate designs into production-ready services and contribute to robust backend architectures. You work with cross-functional teams to review code and apply proven patterns using modern tech. The position involves building secure, maintainable services that operate in demanding environments, with a clear DV clearance requirement.

Responsibilities

• Write clean, secure, maintainable backend code
• Translate designs into working software from concept to production
• Contribute to code reviews and shared technical decisions
• Design, build, test and document robust backend services
• Apply appropriate patterns using proven and emerging technologies

Key requirements

• Python
• Linux
• Bash scripting

• Messaging or streaming technologies (e.g. Kafka or Apache Pulsar)
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams
• Tooling such as Atlassian or GitLab
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines
