Director of Data Engineering

Direct Alpaca’s data engineering organization on-site, combining Python, SQL, cloud infrastructure, and leadership across critical financial systems.

This Director-level leader will own data strategy, execution, and roadmap for a department serving Finance, Sales, Product, Compliance, and Customer Success. You will balance operational delivery with self-service analytics, AI-powered analytics, and enterprise search. The role remains hands-on enough for architecture decisions, technical reviews, and executive representation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage leads, establish priorities, and deliver platform initiatives
• Make build-versus-buy decisions for data tooling
• Translate business needs into scalable data products
• Enable semantic layers, catalogues, and conversational BI
• Manage infrastructure costs as assets under custody grow

Requirements:

• Eight-plus years of data engineering experience
• Three-plus years managing leads and individual contributors
• Deep modern data stack experience with dbt and query engines
• Financial data experience in fintech or financial services
• Strong executive stakeholder management and architecture judgment
