Position Summary
The Director of Quality will develop, support and lead our Quality Assurance / Quality Control teams and be a primary customer interface representing our Summit Toronto facility. The Director will lead compliance and further optimization of an established quality program and be a critical part of our cross functional team. This role will develop and review standards, policies, processes and procedures to ensure the highest level of service, specification compliance and quality to our customers.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Leads the company with progressive change, identifies opportunities for improvement and creates solutions cross-functionally with manufacturing, engineering, supply chain and sales.
• Leads quality related communications internally and externally with suppliers and customers.
• Maintains and improves the AS9100 quality management system, including document control, internal audits, management review, corrective and preventive action, and readiness for registrar, customer, and NADCAP audits.
• Coaches, and develops the quality team (inspectors, engineers, auditors, lab technicians). Sets goals, staffing plans, and training requirements.
• Provides quality reporting in support of continuous improvement team (CIT) meetings to ensure process owners and management teams have the required reports and data necessary for decision making.
• Assists to investigate and resolve customer (internal and external) quality complaints with a focus on providing outstanding customer communication and thorough RCCA responses grounded in preventative solutions.
• Manages and maintains CAPA and RMA ProCIM database.
• Participates as a key member of the Material Review Board (MRB).
• Maintains daily records, reports and prioritizes action-based schedules (print and electronic).
• Assists process owners in the proper use of quality forms, work instructions, and procedures.
• Plans, organizes and records training activities and operator certifications.
• Oversees calibration, measurement-system analysis, and laboratory controls for the quality lab and production test equipment.
• Maintains IPC CIT (Certified IPC Trainer) accreditations and J-STD standards.
• Actively manages and develops staff including training / cross training plans to encourage team member growth and support business needs.
• Carries out responsibilities in accordance with Summit’s policies and applicable laws.
• Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skill Sets, Education, Experience
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality, materials science, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
• 8–12 years in quality. Experience in PCB fabrication, electronics manufacturing, aerospace/defense hardware, plating operations and/or photovoltaics is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years leading high-performance teams.
• Demonstrated success managing an AS9100 quality system and customer audits.
• Deep structured problem-solving skills, root-cause analysis and statistical process control experience.
• Proven success providing strong leadership within a manufacturing environment and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
• Brings a culture of quality first, employee value, mentoring and coaching
• Strong ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and properly prioritize.
• Excellent customer interface / communication ability
• Operate ERP and MS Office software at a proficient level. Forward leaning in use of AI tools.
Preferred:
• Six Sigma and/or Lean certification
• Current IPC certifications
