Java Server-Side / Backend Developer

We are looking for an experienced Java / Kotlin Backend Developer to join a mobile engineering team, building scalable, high-performance backend services for mobile applications used by millions of customers worldwide.

Role -: Java Developer – Java & Kotlin | Spring Boot & Microservices

Location: Burgess Hill, UK

Work Model: Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite / 2 Days Remote

Role: Backend Developer / Server-Side Engineer

You will work on the Backend for Frontend (BFF) API layer, developing reliable microservices and collaborating with engineers, product managers, designers, and QA teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend applications and microservices.
• Build REST APIs and Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) services for mobile applications.
• Develop solutions using Java 17+ and/or Kotlin, leveraging Spring and Spring Boot.
• Write clean, maintainable, testable, and production-ready code.
• Refactor legacy applications and improve performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Develop and maintain automated build processes using Gradle.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Develop asynchronous and concurrent applications.
• Troubleshoot production issues, debug defects, and optimize application performance.
• Implement unit tests and automated testing practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex technical challenges.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience in Java 17+ and/or Kotlin.
• Solid experience with Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience with REST API development and integration.
• Hands-on experience with Gradle and build automation.
• Understanding of asynchronous programming and concurrent applications.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills.
• Experience working with legacy systems and enterprise backend services.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Experience developing Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) services.
• Knowledge of GraphQL (GQL) and RAML.
• Experience supporting large-scale, customer-facing mobile applications.
• Familiarity with modern software engineering practices and open-source technologies.
