Lead DevOps Engineer

Overview

In this role, you lead the design, build, and operation of secure cloud platforms for mission-critical Defence and Government programs. You will mentor engineers and drive DevSecOps practices to deliver scalable, reliable solutions that protect data and support critical missions. The role combines hands-on delivery with technical leadership in secure cloud environments and automation. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to shape engineering delivery and security-first outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end design, build, test, and deployment of secure cloud infrastructure and applications using DevOps/DevSecOps methods
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and IaC to enable automated, repeatable deployments
• Operate secure cloud environments for data platforms and analytics workloads
• Enhance automated testing frameworks across the SDLC
• Maintain deployment scripts, tooling, and processes to meet evolving requirements
• Set up and optimize development, test, and production environments
• Provide production support, incident investigation, and root-cause analysis
• Conduct ongoing maintenance for stability, performance and resilience
• Perform gap analyses and propose scalable technical improvements
• Support contingency planning and disaster recovery activities and document procedures
• Mentor engineers and foster collaboration and continuous improvement

Key requirements

• 5+ years delivering production-grade cloud solutions in complex or secure environments
• Experience in DevSecOps with Zero Trust Architecture
• Experience deploying/operating infra, platforms, and apps in AWS and hybrid clouds
• Knowledge of open-source and commercial cloud technologies
• Experience with GitHub, GitLab, and Atlassian Suite
• Proficiency with CI/CD and IaC (Terraform, Ansible)
• Experience with TDD and automated testing frameworks
• Strong containerization/orchestration knowledge (Kubernetes, Docker, ECS, EKS, AKS)
• Experience with distributed event-streaming (Kafka, Apache Flink)
• Strong troubleshooting and mentoring skills in Agile environments
