Job Description
The Machine Programmer will be responsible for creating, modifying, and optimizing CNC programs and machine instructions for precision manufacturing operations. The programmer will ensure part accuracy, efficient machine performance, and alignment with production specifications. Attention to detail and a strong understanding of machining processes, tooling, and G-code programming are essential in this role to ensure consistent and high-quality output.
Role and responsibilities
Ensure Quality of Machined Components: Develop and fine-tune CNC programs to produce parts that meet dimensional, structural, and performance requirements as per engineering drawings and customer specifications.
Monitor Machining Processes: Review and adjust machine programs and tool paths to ensure optimal cutting conditions, surface finishes, and material utilization.
Tooling and Setup Management: Select appropriate tools and cutting parameters; support setup teams to ensure machines are properly configured for each job.
Quality Control: Validate programmed output by reviewing first-run parts, making necessary adjustments to ensure compliance with quality standards and tolerances.
Process Optimization: Continuously improve machining strategies to reduce cycle time, improve tool life, and increase overall production efficiency.
Collaboration with Engineering: Work closely with engineering, design, and production teams to ensure manufacturability of parts and integration of design changes into programs.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of programs, setups, and machining parameters for traceability and repeatability.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure all programs and operations comply with safety regulations, operational guidelines, and industry standards.
Troubleshooting: Analyze and resolve issues with machine behavior, cutting tools, program errors, or part deviations during production runs.
Support Process Improvement Initiatives: Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives, including automation, material reduction, and workflow enhancements.
All other related tasks are considered part of the role and may be assigned as needed.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Minimum 3 years of experience in CNC programming or machine programming within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Strong understanding of machining principles, G-code/M-code, and CNC machine operations (e.g., milling, turning, multi-axis).
Experience with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, Siemens NX) and ability to interpret technical drawings and GD&T.
Familiarity with a range of machining tools, materials, speeds, and feeds to ensure optimal performance and tool longevity.
Ability to read and analyze blueprints, 3D models, and engineering documentation.
Skilled in troubleshooting machining issues and implementing corrective actions efficiently.
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-precision components.
Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to support manufacturing goals.
Good organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple programming tasks and production schedules.
A growth mindset, with a passion for learning new technologies, programming techniques, and process improvements.
