Micro Focus COBOL Developer (Remote)

About the Role
As a Micro Focus COBOL Developer, you will design, develop, maintain, and enhance enterprise applications that support critical business operations. This role focuses on applications supporting Point-of-Sale and batch processing environments and requires strong hands-on experience with Micro Focus COBOL, CICS, JCL, Oracle, and Linux.
You will analyze existing applications, develop and test enhancements, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and support system performance and reliability. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams and clients to understand business requirements, develop technical solutions, and support system upgrades and modernization initiatives.
Responsibilities
• Analyze, design, develop, implement, maintain, and enhance systems supporting Point-of-Sale and batch processes using Micro Focus COBOL, CICS, Oracle, and JCL.
• Analyze RFP and business requirements, collaborate with internal teams and clients, and contribute to solution design, technical documentation, and development estimates.
• Develop and unit test software solutions to ensure they meet business and client requirements.
• Develop testing recommendations and support comprehensive testing of system modifications and enhancements.
• Troubleshoot, investigate, resolve, and document complex application and production issues.
• Identify and implement solutions to minimize system disruptions and prevent outages.
• Provide on-call production support as needed.
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams to explain technical issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
• Assist in preparing functional and technical specifications for application systems.
• Present system requirements, designs, and proposed solutions to client and internal stakeholders.
• Prepare regular status updates on development activities for management.
• Maintain and update system documentation, reports, and technical exhibits.
Requirements
• 7+ years of experience working with Micro Focus COBOL, CICS, JCL, and Oracle in a Linux environment.
• Strong hands-on expertise with Micro Focus COBOL, Oracle 10g/11g, CICS, and JCL.
• Strong SQL skills with the ability to develop complex SQL statements.
• Hands-on experience with Micro Focus Net Express IDE.
• Experience working within a Red Hat Linux environment.
• Experience developing or supporting a Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) system.
• Experience with production support activities and monitoring.
• Flexibility to work morning or afternoon shifts based on business needs.
• Working knowledge of mainframe environments and technologies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
• Ability to quickly learn and work with new technologies.
• At least 3 years of U.S.-based professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with IBM COBOL, ACUCOBOL, or other COBOL environments.
• Familiarity with ANSI-compliant databases.
• Experience working with SQL across relational database platforms.
• Experience developing or supporting a Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) system.

For this position, actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. In addition to base pay, this position, based on business need, may be eligible for a bonus or incentive. In addition, Conduent provides a variety of benefits to employees including health insurance coverage, voluntary dental and vision programs, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO) or vacation and/or sick time. The estimated salary range for this role is (80,080 - $104,000)
