Description
PHP Developer
Pearson Carter are currently working with a market-leading travel organisation that is investing heavily in its in-house technology team. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced PHP Developer to help drive the development of their customer-facing platforms and internal systems.

Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and enhance backend applications using PHP and Symfony.
- Design and develop REST APIs and microservices for internal and external integrations.
- Build scalable, secure and high-performing applications.
- Work with AWS services including EC2, S3, CloudFront, Lambda, CloudWatch and RDS.
- Collaborate with developers, stakeholders and other business teams to deliver new features.
- Write clean, maintainable and well-documented code following best practices.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical discussions.
- Work within an Agile development environment to deliver projects on time.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and recommend improvements where appropriate.
Experience
- Around 3 years' commercial experience developing with PHP.
- Strong experience with the Symfony Framework.
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services.
- Experience working with Linux and NGINX environments.
- Strong understanding of Git version control.
- Good knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively.
Desirable
- Experience with React, Webpack and modern JavaScript (ES6).
- Knowledge of Redis and SOLR.
- Experience with website performance optimisation.
- Familiarity with SEO best practices.
- Experience with Google Tag Manager.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Salary
Salary is dependent on experience but is looking to pay between £45,000 - £55,000.
Location
This role is based in Colchester and is primarily office-based (3 days in office, 2 days from home).
Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.
