Description

At Arctic Wolf, you won’t just watch the cybersecurity industry evolve – you'll help lead the change. Our global Pack is made up of people who thrive on solving hard problems, moving fast, and building technology that protects organizations around the world. We’re proud to be recognized by Forbes, CNBC, Fortune, CRN, Bartner Peer Insights and IDC MarketScape – but what matters most is the work behind it: delivering real outcomes for customers through award winning innovation like our Aurora Platform.

If you’re looking for meaningful work, smart teammates and the chance to make a real impact in a high-growth company that’s redefining security operations, Arctic Wolf is the right place for you!

Our mission is simple: End Cyber Risk. We’re looking for a Principal Information Security Engineer to be part of making that happen.

About the Role

The Principal Information Security Engineer is the most senior individual contributor within Security Engineering and serves as a technical leader across Arctic Wolf's security landscape. This role is responsible for defining technical strategy, solving the organization's most complex security challenges, and building security capabilities that scale across the enterprise.

This individual combines deep expertise across security architecture, software engineering, identity, cloud security, automation, AI, and enterprise security disciplines to drive meaningful security outcomes. While design and consultation are important aspects of the role, this position is fundamentally an engineering role. The Principal Information Security Engineer is expected to remain hands-on, contributing code, building solutions, creating automation, and helping teams operationalize security at scale.

The successful candidate will influence security strategy across enterprise, corporate, and product environments while serving as a trusted technical advisor to executives, engineering leaders, architects, and security practitioners. They will establish technical direction, define security patterns and standards, and help Arctic Wolf adopt emerging technologies safely and effectively.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Strategy

  • Establish long-term technical direction for Security Engineering.
  • Serve as the organization's senior-most security engineering subject matter expert.
  • Influence security strategy, roadmaps, standards, and technology decisions across the enterprise.
  • Partner with engineering, infrastructure, product, and executive leadership to align security capabilities with business objectives.
  • Identify emerging technologies, threats, and industry trends that should shape future security investments.

Engineering & Solution Development

  • Design, build, and implement security capabilities that improve the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Arctic Wolf systems and data.
  • Develop automation, integrations, tooling, and platforms that reduce operational burden and increase security effectiveness.
  • Lead the development of reusable security services, frameworks, APIs, and engineering patterns.
  • Produce prototypes and proof-of-concepts that validate new security capabilities and technologies.
  • Drive engineering-first solutions that favor automation and scalability over manual processes.

Security Architecture & Governance

  • Lead architecture reviews and security design assessments across enterprise, corporate, and product environments.
  • Establish security reference architectures, technical standards, and engineering guardrails.
  • Evaluate technology designs to ensure appropriate security controls, resiliency, and risk management.
  • Serve as a key decision maker for security technology evaluations, approvals, and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide expert guidance for complex security and business decisions involving technology risk.

Cloud, Identity, and Infrastructure Security

  • Drive security improvements across cloud, infrastructure, endpoint, application, network, and identity ecosystems.
  • Develop security patterns supporting zero trust, identity-first security, cloud-native architectures, and modern software delivery practices.
  • Guide implementation and evolution of authentication, authorization, privileged access, infrastructure security, and security monitoring capabilities.
  • Help establish secure-by-default platforms and engineering practices across the organization.

AI Security & Enablement

  • Enable safe and effective adoption of AI technologies across the business.
  • Define security standards, guardrails, and reference patterns for AI systems, agents, LLMs, and emerging AI capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage AI to improve security operations, engineering effectiveness, vulnerability management, and threat detection.
  • Partner with business and engineering teams to evaluate and implement AI solutions while appropriately managing risk.

Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders across Security Engineering and partner organizations.
  • Lead through influence rather than direct authority.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into actionable recommendations for technical and executive audiences.
  • Represent Arctic Wolf as a technical leader through conferences, industry engagement, publications, and community participation.

About You

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Security, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in security engineering, cloud security, security architecture, software engineering, identity and access management, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-scale security initiatives and complex technical programs.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and operating security solutions within cloud-native and SaaS environments.
  • Strong software development experience using modern programming and scripting languages such as Python, Go, or similar technologies.
  • Experience influencing technical direction across multiple teams and organizational boundaries.
  • CISSP, CCSP, AWS Security Specialty, GIAC, CISM, or equivalent industry certifications.
  • Deep experience with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and GCP.
  • Experience building internal security platforms, developer security tooling, automation frameworks, or cloud-native security services.
  • Experience implementing and securing AI systems, large language models, agents, or AI-enabled business workflows.
  • Public speaking, conference presentations, industry contributions, or demonstrated technical thought leadership.
  • Experience mentoring highly senior engineers and technical leaders.

On-Camera Policy
To support a fair, transparent, and engaging interview experience, candidates interviewing remotely are expected to be on camera during all video interviews. Being on camera fosters authentic connection, improves communication, and allows for full engagement from both candidates and interviewers. We understand that technical, bandwidth, or location-related challenges may occasionally prevent video use. If this applies, candidates are required to notify us in advance so we can explore appropriate accommodations.
