This job posting is for an existing vacancy.

We’re looking for our next Principal Software Engineer. Could It Be You?
We are building a modern, in-house loan origination platform that takes a secured loan from application to funding: intake, underwriting, mortgage insurance, fulfillment, allocation and funding. It handles real money and real regulatory obligations, and it is changing quickly as we add new lending programs and bring AI into how we build and operate.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will be the senior technical authority on this platform. You will set architectural direction, raise the engineering bar, and stay close to the code. We want someone with strong product instincts, who cares about what we build and why as much as how.

Need more details? Keep reading…
In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Owning the architecture and technical roadmap of the secured lending origination platform, balancing delivery speed with correctness, auditability and resilience

Writing and reviewing production C# and .NET code, and set the standard for how the team builds

Applying Domain-Driven Design to model complex lending workflows, keeping bounded contexts clean as the business grows

Designing and evolving event-driven services on GCP and Kubernetes, using CQRS where it fits, with reliable messaging and integrations with internal and external partners

Driving test-driven development and a strong automated testing culture, including end-to-end coverage with Playwright

Continuously finding better ways to leverage AI to improve efficiency and optimize outcomes, both in how the squad builds (tools like Claude Code across design, build, test and review) and in the origination platform itself

Setting the guardrails that keep AI-accelerated delivery safe and repeatable, and delivering AI-powered capabilities in the lending workflow, such as document handling, decision support and operational automation

Using AI to reduce manual effort for underwriters, fulfillment and operations teams, with clear human oversight where decisions affect clients

Shaping how AI is used across the full delivery lifecycle, from requirements and design through testing, release and production support, and measure the efficiency gains it delivers

Owning production health with Datadog: dashboards, monitors, tracing, incident response and continuous reliability improvements

Partnering with Product, Credit Risk, Operations and Compliance to shape the roadmap and turn lending policy into reliable, testable software

Mentoring engineers through design reviews, pairing and coaching

So are YOU our next Principal Software Engineer? You are if you…

Have 8+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading technical direction on complex, business-critical systems

Have deep expertise in C# and .NET (modern .NET, ASP.NET Core, async programming, performance)

Have strong practical experience with Domain-Driven Design

Have a real test-driven development practice, including UI and end-to-end automation with Playwright

Have experience designing and running event-driven, distributed systems in production

Have hands-on experience with GCP and Kubernetes

Have experience with Datadog or comparable observability platforms for monitoring, tracing and alerting

Have real day-to-day experience with AI coding tools, a considered view on where they help and where they need guardrails, and a drive to keep finding new ways to apply AI to improve efficiency and outcomes

Have a strong product mindset: you understand the business problem, challenge requirements, and make trade-offs with customer and business outcomes in mind

Have excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain trade-offs to engineers and executives alike

Additional kudos if you…

Have experience with CQRS (and event sourcing)

Have background in lending, mortgages, banking or other regulated financial services

Have experience integrating third-party providers, such as insurers, credit bureaus and valuation services

Have experience building or integrating LLM-powered features

Are familiar with GitLab CI/CD and infrastructure as code

Have knowledge of Canadian mortgage regulation and privacy requirements

Compensation Information:

Base salary range: $120,000 - $140,000

The final compensation package will be commensurate with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and geographic location (Canada). It includes a comprehensive benefits plan and a competitive incentive (bonus) program for Full-Time Permanent roles.
