TAT Technologies' Greensboro site serves as the company's Center of Excellence for Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) and landing gear MRO services, as well as aircraft component leasing solutions. Supporting commercial and military aircraft operators worldwide, the site provides integrated maintenance and asset management solutions that maximize fleet availability, reduce downtime, and improve operational performance.
We are seeking a dynamic Quality Assurance Manager to lead the quality system at our FAA 14 CFR Part 145 repair station, which supports Part 121 air carrier customers and holds multiple foreign authority approvals. This individual will ensure that all maintenance, preventive maintenance, and alterations performed at the site meet FAA, foreign authority, customer, and company requirements, and that every component released to service is airworthy. This role will manage and be accountable for the repair station's quality assurance system, internal audit and corrective action programs, inspection oversight (auditing), and regulatory and customer audit readiness. The Quality Assurance Manager serves as a key liaison for foreign civil aviation authorities, and air carrier customers. The Quality Assurance Manager will work with the Chief Inspector/Quality Control Manager and partner closely with the FAA and TAT Operations to build a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the repair station’s QMS (Quality Management System) in accordance with 14 CFR Part 145, including the Repair Station Manual (RSM) and Quality Control Manual (QCM); prepare revisions, obtain FAA acceptance with working with the Chief Inspector, and ensure changes are implemented and trained across the site.
- Ensure work performed for Part 121 air carrier customers complies with each carrier's Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program (CAMP), contractual flow-down requirements, and Continuing Analysis and Surveillance System (CASS) expectations under 14 CFR 121.373.
- Serve as the primary quality point of contact for foreign civil aviation authorities (e.g., EASA, CAAC, BCAA), and customer auditors; host audits, coordinate responses, and drive findings to timely closure.
- Plan, schedule, and execute the internal audit program covering Part 145 requirements, foreign authority special conditions (including the FAA-EASA Maintenance Annex Guidance), customer requirements, and AS9110 elements; track all findings through verified closure.
- Own the Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) process; lead root cause investigations using structured methods (5-Why, fishbone, human factors analysis) and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Oversee receiving, in-process, and final inspection activities, and ensure maintenance release documentation (FAA Form 8130-3, dual/multi-release statements, and foreign authority equivalents) is accurate and properly authorized.
- Ensure the roster of supervisory, inspection, and return-to-service personnel are compliant per 14 CFR 145.157 and 145.161, including qualification, authorization, and recurrent evaluation of inspectors.
- Validate nonconforming material, quarantine, and Material Review Board activity; ensure suspected unapproved parts are reported (FAA Form 8120-11) and that failures, malfunctions, and defects are reported per 14 CFR 145.221.
- Ensure maintenance records and work packages are complete, accurate, and retained per 14 CFR 145.219 and customer requirements; verify the use of current technical data (CMMs, SBs, ADs, IPCs).
- Maintain the repair station capability list and conduct self-evaluations per 14 CFR 145.215 when adding new capabilities.
- Oversee the calibration program for tools, test equipment, and measuring devices per 14 CFR 145.109, including out-of-tolerance impact assessments.
- Ensure the training program meets 14 CFR 145.163, including initial, recurrent, and human factors training, with complete and auditable training records.
- Manage supplier and outsourced maintenance quality, including the approved vendor list, supplier audits, and control of contract maintenance per 14 CFR 145.217.
- Support the Safety Management System (SMS) through hazard identification, risk assessment, safety assurance, and safety promotion activities.
- Develop and report quality metrics (quality escapes, customer returns, audit findings, CAPA aging, inspection rejections) to site leadership, and drive data-based continuous improvement in partnership with Operations.
- Lead, coach, and develop Quality Team Members, building strength and succession for key quality roles.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Aviation Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate strongly preferred; Inspection Authorization (IA) a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of aviation maintenance quality experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role within an FAA Part 145 repair station.
- In-depth working knowledge of 14 CFR Parts 43, 65, 121, and 145, and related FAA guidance (AC 145-9, AC 120-16, AC 120-79).
- Experience supporting Part 121 air carrier customers, including carrier audits, CAMP and CASS requirements, and contractual quality flow-downs.
- Experience with foreign authority approvals (EASA, CAAC, and/or other civil aviation authorities) and multi-authority maintenance release requirements.
- Proven track record hosting FAA, foreign authority, customer, and third-party registrar audits with successful outcomes.
- AS9100/AS9110 Lead Auditor certification preferred; ASQ certification (CQA, CQE, or CMQ/OE) a plus.
- Component MRO experience (APU, landing gear, or related rotable components) preferred.
- Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills, with experience leading CAPA and human factors investigations.
- Familiarity with Safety Management Systems (14 CFR Part 5 / AC 120-92) preferred.
- Excellent technical writing skills for manuals, procedures, and audit responses; strong verbal communication with regulators, customers, and all levels of the organization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP/MRO maintenance tracking systems, Quantum preferred.
