Senior AI Backend Engineer Java

Build AI-powered backend capabilities with Java, Spring Boot, and LLM orchestration for scalable, resilient banking application ecosystems.

This Senior Java Developer role connects high-scale microservices architecture with GenAI for a major financial services client. You will build intelligent automation, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, vector database integrations, and agentic workflows. The hybrid schedule requires two days each week in a downtown Toronto office.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prototype AI automation and architect LLM-enabled backend systems
• Design, test, and refine prompts for intelligent features
• Build agentic workflows supporting business processes
• Establish API-first service communication and integration patterns
• Define caching, observability, and technology selection strategies

Requirements:

• Seven or more years delivering large-scale enterprise applications
• Strong Java, Spring Boot, RESTful API, and gRPC skills
• Python and LangChain or LlamaIndex experience
• Working knowledge of vector databases and LLM orchestration
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
