This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Associate - Mainframe Infrastructure Engineer based in the United States.
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Infrastructure Engineer with strong systems analysis capabilities to support and enhance a large-scale enterprise mainframe environment. In this role, you will help maintain reliable, secure, and high-performing z/OS-based systems while supporting application integration and infrastructure improvements. You will combine hands-on mainframe engineering expertise with Agile leadership, serving as a Scrum Master for infrastructure initiatives. Working closely with application developers, database administrators, schedulers, and infrastructure teams, you will help resolve technical challenges and improve delivery outcomes. This hybrid position offers opportunities to contribute to critical enterprise systems while encouraging collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. The role is based in New York, NY, with limited on-site attendance and participation in key operational support periods.
Accountabilities:
- Mainframe Operations and Engineering: Provide systems analysis and engineering support for enterprise mainframe environments, including z/OS, JCL, batch processing, and online processing.
- System Software Maintenance: Manage system software installation, configuration, and maintenance activities using SMP/E to support platform stability and reliability.
- Performance Monitoring and Optimization: Use mainframe monitoring and performance tools to assess system health, identify capacity constraints, investigate performance issues, and implement appropriate solutions.
- Application Integration and Troubleshooting: Partner with application development teams to diagnose and resolve system integration issues, ensuring applications execute efficiently and reliably.
- Agile Delivery Leadership: Serve as Scrum Master for mainframe initiatives, guiding teams in Agile and Scrum practices and supporting effective delivery within an infrastructure-focused environment.
- Scrum Facilitation: Organize and facilitate daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives while identifying and removing obstacles that affect team progress.
- Coaching and Mentoring: Help team members strengthen their understanding of Scrum principles and Agile processes, adapting practices to the needs of mainframe engineering projects.
- Continuous Improvement: Promote transparency, accountability, collaboration, and ongoing process improvement across mainframe delivery initiatives.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Maintain clear communication with application teams, database administrators, schedulers, infrastructure engineers, and business stakeholders.
- Operational Readiness: Participate in on-call rotations during critical operational periods, including month-end, quarter-end, year-end, and major releases. Collaborate on planning, release activities, and key change windows.
- Strong technical understanding of mainframe environments, including z/OS, JCL, batch processing, and online processing.
- Hands-on experience with SMP/E and mainframe system software installation and maintenance.
- Experience using mainframe performance monitoring and diagnostic tools to investigate system health, performance, and capacity issues.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with application developers and infrastructure partners to resolve integration and performance challenges.
- Experience serving as a Scrum Master in an Agile environment, preferably supporting mainframe, infrastructure, or legacy technology projects.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and mentoring skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across technical teams and business stakeholders.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, remove delivery impediments, and encourage continuous improvement within cross-functional teams.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise mainframe platforms is preferred.
- Knowledge of Agile transformation within infrastructure or legacy technology environments is an advantage.
- Relevant Agile or Scrum certifications, such as SAFe, Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or equivalent, are desirable.
- Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement based in New York, NY, with on-site collaboration for planning, release events, and critical change windows, as well as participation in scheduled on-call rotations.
- Annual base salary ranging from $90,000 to $128,500, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and job location.
