Description

London – Fully Remote | £90,000 – £110,000 Base + Equity

We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join an early-stage, venture-backed AI company building an intelligent operating platform for senior finance teams. Their technology brings together complex business and financial data, enabling AI agents to identify trends, surface opportunities and support faster strategic decision-making.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering role with ownership of the Python data pipelines, integrations and underlying data models that power the platform. You’ll help to ensure AI systems can retrieve, interpret and reason accurately across large volumes of sensitive, multi-entity data.

You’ll report directly to the CTO and join a small, collaborative engineering team where you’ll own technical problems from initial design through to production. The position will initially be heavily focused as an individual contributor, with the opportunity to gradually build and mentor a growing data team, and develop into a technical leadership role.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain production-grade data pipelines using Python
  • Design ETL and ELT workflows that bring customer data into the platform
  • Develop integrations with data warehouses, ERP platforms, accounting tools and billing systems
  • Create data models and ontologies that support accurate AI retrieval and reasoning
  • Work with graph databases, vector stores, SQL and relational databases
  • Support RAG and GraphRAG-based systems operating across complex business data
  • Own projects across application development, data infrastructure and production deployment
  • Contribute to cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code and security controls
  • Improve the reliability, scalability and observability of the company’s data platform
  • Help define the longer-term data architecture as the product and engineering team grow
  • Mentor other data engineers and gradually take greater responsibility for technical direction

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong commercial experience in data engineering, ML systems or backend software engineering
  • Experience at an early-stage B2B software company
  • Advanced Python skills, with experience building production ETL or ELT pipelines
  • Experience designing, deploying and operating data systems in production
  • Previous involvement with an AI or machine learning-powered product
  • An understanding of graph databases, vector stores and modern AI retrieval architectures
  • Experience with SQL, data modelling and API-based integrations
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, ideally GCP, alongside CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code
  • The ability to take ownership of complex and sometimes ambiguous technical problems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Exposure to financial data, accounting platforms, business analytics, Snowflake, PostgreSQL or SurrealDB would be a bonus.

They are offering a base salary of £90,000 – £110,000 plus equity, as well as fully remote working within UK and European hours, and the team usually meet up in person once every couple of months.
