Position Summary

The Senior Manager of IT Infrastructure is a key leadership position responsible for the day-to-day leadership, execution, reliability, security, and continuous improvement of Construction Resources' enterprise infrastructure.

Reporting directly to the Director of IT Infrastructure & Operations, this position serves as the Director's right hand and primary infrastructure leader, translating infrastructure strategy and organizational priorities into successful technical execution.

The Senior Manager leads the Systems Administration and Systems Engineering functions and is responsible for coordinating infrastructure projects, establishing technical standards, managing operational priorities, and ensuring that enterprise infrastructure services remain secure, resilient, scalable, and aligned with the needs of the business.

This position requires a combination of people leadership, technical depth, project execution, operational discipline, and strategic thinking. The successful candidate should be capable of leading technical teams and complex initiatives while also stepping into detailed technical discussions when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish clear expectations, responsibilities, technical standards, and operational priorities for the Infrastructure team.
  • Conduct regular team meetings, project reviews, technical reviews, and one-on-one discussions.
  • Develop team capabilities through mentoring, cross-training, documentation, and knowledge transfer.

  • Provide technical leadership for infrastructure architecture and major technology decisions.
  • Ensure infrastructure solutions are designed for security, availability, scalability, supportability, and cost efficiency.
  • Evaluate new infrastructure technologies and recommend improvements or modernization opportunities.
  • Help establish architecture standards and ensure engineering decisions align with the organization's long-term technology direction.

Infrastructure Operations

Provide leadership and oversight for infrastructure technologies including:

  • Microsoft Azure and hybrid-cloud infrastructure
  • Microsoft 365
  • Microsoft Entra ID and Active Directory
  • Microsoft Intune and endpoint management
  • Windows Server infrastructure

The Senior Manager is expected to ensure these platforms are properly monitored, maintained, documented, secured, and supported.

Project & Program Execution

  • Lead the technical execution of infrastructure projects from planning through implementation and operational handoff.
  • Coordinate Systems Engineers, Systems Administrators, vendors, consultants, and business stakeholders involved in infrastructure initiatives.
  • Maintain visibility into project status, risks, dependencies, issues, budgets, and resource requirements.
  • Escalate significant risks or roadblocks to the Director with clear options and recommendations.
  • Ensure new infrastructure solutions include operational documentation, monitoring, security controls, backup requirements, and support processes before being transitioned into production.
  • Coordinate infrastructure activities associated with acquisitions, migrations, office changes, business expansion, and technology modernization initiatives.

Reliability, Monitoring & Service Management

  • Establish and maintain operational practices that improve infrastructure reliability and availability.
  • Drive proactive monitoring and alerting across servers, networks, cloud services, applications, and critical infrastructure.

  • Ensure infrastructure architecture, configurations, operating procedures, support processes, and recovery procedures are appropriately documented.
  • Establish and maintain technical standards and infrastructure SOPs.
  • Improve configuration management and infrastructure inventory practices.
  • Ensure critical infrastructure knowledge is distributed across the team rather than dependent upon individual team members.

Leadership Expectations

The Senior Manager of IT Infrastructure is expected to operate as an extension of the Director of IT Infrastructure & Operations.

This means the individual should:

  • Understand the Director's priorities and actively drive them forward.
  • Take ownership of infrastructure issues without requiring constant direction.
  • Bring problems forward with recommended solutions, not simply escalations.
  • Maintain visibility across projects, operations, risks, staffing, and technical debt.
  • Anticipate infrastructure needs and risks before they become operational problems.
  • Balance immediate operational needs against longer-term architecture and modernization objectives.
  • Communicate clearly with technical teams, business leaders, vendors, and executives.
  • Be comfortable making day-to-day infrastructure decisions while appropriately escalating decisions involving significant business risk, cost, security, or strategic direction.
  • Be capable of representing Infrastructure & Operations leadership when the Director is unavailable.

Required Qualifications

  • Significant professional experience in enterprise IT infrastructure, systems engineering, infrastructure architecture, or IT operations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading Systems Administrators, Systems Engineers, or comparable technical resources.

  • Strong understanding of networking, identity, virtualization, storage, backup, endpoint management, and infrastructure security.
  • Experience managing enterprise technology vendors and technical partners.
  • Strong understanding of IT operational disciplines including incident management, change management, monitoring, capacity planning, backup, and disaster recovery.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and execution plans.
  • Strong troubleshooting, decision-making, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Experience with enterprise networking and security technologies such as Zscaler, CrowdStrike, Qualys, and modern Zero Trust architectures.
  • Experience with Veeam or comparable enterprise backup and disaster recovery platforms.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure associated with mergers, acquisitions, site integrations, or large-scale technology migrations.
  • Experience working with compliance-driven environments, including PCI-related infrastructure controls.
  • ITIL, Microsoft, Azure, Cisco, VMware, security, or comparable technical certifications are preferred.
