Overview
A Senior Solutions Engineer is a highly skilled engineering professional with extensive hands-on project experience who leads the development of comprehensive solutions to complex engineering and manufacturing problems and serves as an authority in one or more project specialty areas.
Responsibilities & Activities
Project Delivery
- Lead complex project development activities.
- Influence innovation by recommending ideas and encouraging project-team creativity.
- Lead or oversee site installation and commissioning efforts.
- Provide advanced backup support and guidance for field service and project teams.
Front-end Engineering and Commercial
- Define system architecture, select solution platforms, and create concept-level designs.
- Guide project risk assessments and contingency planning.
- Develop and review specifications for user requirements, functionality, and system design.
- Support estimating for proposed solutions and project development labor.
Quality
- Ensure solutions comply with best practices and system safety conventions.
- Develop quality plans and test protocols.
- Lead or participate in design reviews and deliverable approvals.
- Provide feedback during project closeout, audits, and performance monitoring.
- Ensure assigned work remains aligned with project budgets, schedules, and scope.
Leadership & Development
- Serve as Technical Lead on assigned projects.
- Mentor engineers in technical and career development.
- Coach project engineers in both technical execution and project delivery.
- Create training content and support onboarding and knowledge transfer.
- Lead or serve as a core member of continuous improvement workstreams.
Knowledge & Experience
- Experience leading control and information system design and development.
- Extensive client consulting experience during solution architecture and implementation.
- Advanced proficiency programming and commissioning complex multi-platform systems.
- Broad knowledge of manufacturing, automation, industrial controls, and information systems.
- Strong knowledge of project leadership and quality management methods.
- Experience supervising, coordinating, and reviewing the work of others.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing ecosystem concepts across ISA-95 levels 0-4.
Project Specialty Areas
A Senior Solutions Engineer demonstrates depth in one or more specialty areas; examples include:
Batch
- Five or more years of relevant process-industry experience.
- Hands-on experience with batch control and batch management software.
- Working knowledge of ISA-88 and regulated or hazardous manufacturing environments, as applicable.
- Experience interpreting P&IDs and applying process instrumentation and drive technologies.
Visualization, Industrial IT and Data
- Five or more years of relevant manufacturing systems experience.
- Advanced experience with HMI, SCADA, reporting, MES/MOM, industrial networks, servers, databases, or manufacturing software development.
- Working knowledge of ISA-95 and industrial cybersecurity practices.
Design, and PLC
- Five or more years of relevant control-system experience.
- Advanced PLC, drive, motion, instrumentation, and industrial electrical design experience.
- Working knowledge of applicable safety, power quality, circuit protection, SIL, and SIS concepts.

- Independent judgment in analyzing and resolving complex technical problems.

- Travel as requested for commissioning, field service, and other site engineering activities.
Education & Qualifications
- Engineering or Technology B.S. degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Manufacturing or a related technical field; equivalent education and relevant experience may be considered.
