Requirements:

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, plus 3+ years of software development experience in Agile product teams
• Strong software engineering, solution design, and systems modelling skills, with enterprise software experience
• Good understanding of APIs, integrations, distributed systems, and software architecture principles
• Experience with automated testing, source control, CI/CD, and DevOps practices
• Confident use of AI-assisted engineering tools, with the judgement to assess their output
• Desirable: experience in airline or airport operations, mission-critical, safety-critical, or regulated systems; event-driven, service-oriented, or cloud-native architectures; observability, monitoring, or SRE; SQL, messaging, and event streaming; AI-DLC practices; or AI-powered or agentic software

Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable software aligned with product and architectural goals
• Build APIs, integrations, messaging, and data exchange between interconnected products and services
• Write automated tests and validation to support quality, reliability, and continuous delivery
• Participate in peer reviews, technical design discussions, and architecture reviews
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools and assess their code, tests, and designs against security, performance, and operational standards
• Investigate defects, identify root causes, and support deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting

We are recruiting for a 12-month Software Development Engineer contract with a team building mission-critical airline operations software, including load optimisation, weight and balance, and regulatory-compliant load sheets. The role involves working with Product Managers, Technical Business Analysts, Architects, and Quality Engineers in Agile teams. It is based in Hounslow, with 50% of the time on site, and offers a rate of up to £430 per day via umbrella, inside IR35. The role may suit people with backgrounds such as Software Engineer, Software Developer, Backend Developer, Integration Engineer, API Engineer, or Application Developer.
