Software Development EngineerJob Description
Software Development Engineer
Design, build and deliver cloud-native, FHIR-based diagnostic reporting applications, including responsibly integrated GenAI capabilities, that help clinicians make faster, more confident decisions.
Your role:
- You will be involved in the next generation of cloud-native and FHIR-based integrated diagnostics reporting applications, including the responsible use of GenAI to automate manual clinical workflows and help clinicians reach faster and more confident decisions. You are responsible for the design, implementation, integration, deployment and testing of software components and services to a high standard of quality, according to requirements and on time, while translating market and clinical needs into implementation requirements with the overall solution in mind.
- You will work as a member of an agile team, together with product owners, users, clinical domain experts, architects and other teams contributing to the same solution. You will collaborate on technical design and implementation with architects and partner teams, align with the team's software development professionalism standards (processes, quality of requirements, design, coding and testing), and contribute to a collaborative, open and high-quality engineering culture.
- You will work with state-of-the-art technologies and practices in cloud, healthcare interoperability, GenAI and AI-assisted software development, and stay abreast of technical developments through literature, courses and trainings, and technical contacts. You will deepen your expertise in digital diagnostics, healthcare interoperability and responsible AI.
You're the right fit if:
- You hold a Bachelor's / Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent (including other technical or scientific disciplines combined with demonstrated software engineering experience). A postgraduate qualification in software technology (Master's, Engineering Doctorate or PhD) is preferred.
- You have a minimum of 5 years of experience with a Bachelor's in areas such as Software Development, Software Design and Architecture, Testing and Quality Assurance or equivalent, OR a minimum of 2 years of experience with a Master's or postgraduate degree in a software-related field.
- You have a proven track record of building and delivering production-grade back-end services, from design and implementation through testing and release, in collaboration with platform and operations teams.
- You have experience working in regulated or data-sensitive environments (e.g. healthcare, medical devices, finance), where quality, security and compliance shape the way software is built.
- You have hands-on experience delivering GenAI capabilities beyond proof of concept in production or near-production environments, including LLM integration, RAG and agentic workflows. You understand evaluation, grounding, validation and safeguards required for responsible use in clinical or other regulated settings.
- You have strong back-end development skills in Java and/or Python, API design skills, and hands-on experience integrating HL7 FHIR APIs and data models. Experience with Clinical Quality Language (CQL) is preferred.
- You are familiar with cloud-native application environments, containers and CI/CD pipelines. Experience with Azure or AWS is preferred.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging platforms such as Apache Kafka is preferred.
- You apply solid engineering practices such as Domain-Driven Design, test-driven development and secure coding, and you work comfortably in Agile/Scrum teams, refining requirements with product owners, users and domain experts.
- You communicate clearly and collaborate across teams and locations.
