Software Engineer

Overview

In this role you will contribute to Planet’s Platform teams, building scalable, cloud-native services that give customers access to daily and high-resolution imagery and derived products. You’ll work across Go, Python, Java, and Kubernetes to deliver performant APIs and data-driven tooling, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align product goals. You’ll apply SRE practices, ensure observability, and participate in on-call rotations to keep services reliable. This is a growth-focused, globally distributed role with opportunities to shape geospatial capabilities and AI-assisted workflows.

Verantwoordelijkheden

• Build, deploy and maintain distributed, high-availability APIs and services with a customer-centric focus
• Collaborate with engineers and product managers across cross-functional teams to align goals
• Write high-quality, observable, and maintainable production code
• Participate in code reviews to uphold standards
• Utilize AI tooling across the development lifecycle with same quality bar as hand-written code
• Grow as a developer while impacting products and customers
• Own operation of APIs through Site Reliability Engineering practices (monitoring, alerts, runbooks, incident response)
• Participate in on-call rotation to support services

Belangrijkste vereisten

• 4+ years of production software development experience in Python, Java, and/or Go
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
• Strong grasp of software engineering best practices and methodologies
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills; ability to propose engineering designs and solicit feedback
• Familiarity with GCP or AWS
• Ability to learn new technologies quickly and navigate ambiguous problems
• Experience with relational databases, document stores, and key-value stores
• Experience with Git, large codebases, CI/CD pipelines, and Docker
• A sense of when AI is useful in software development
