Software Engineer

Salary: £45,000 - 65,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong C++ skills
• A degree in software, computer systems, mathematics, physics, or a similar subject
• An analytical, problem-solving mindset
• Ability to explain technical work to people at all levels
• Curiosity and willingness to learn new technologies and methods
• Willingness to travel occasionally in the UK and abroad, sometimes outside standard working hours
• Nice to have: Qt, Python or Bash scripting, OpenCV, CUDA, or experience with real-time or mission-critical software

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop system software in C++ to MISRA standards
• Build graphical user interfaces, currently using Qt, with plans to explore other technologies
• Deploy software on Linux, including Red Hat and Ubuntu, and maintain the systems it runs on
• Write interface software for external hardware and third-party software
• Analyse trials data and communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences
• Integrate software with prototype equipment
• Manage code using Git

We design and build complex defence systems, and our R&D team works three to five years ahead of live programmes to anticipate future customer requirements. Youll join a small, multidisciplinary team spanning software, controls, electronics and physics, as we modernise our software development with more modular code, improved Git workflows and robust testing. The role is based on-site in Norfolk, with a salary of £45,000–£60,000 and a four-and-a-half-day working week. It offers variety across software, mathematics, hardware and trials, along with training to help fill any skills gaps.
