Staff Backend Engineer IAM Platforms

Lead backend engineering for Brex’s IAM platforms in Vancouver, designing reliable APIs and identity-aware systems. Work hybridly with designated office days Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

This Staff Software Engineer role focuses on authentication, authorization, identity context, and audit-related workflows. You will scope complex initiatives, guide engineers end to end, and improve platform security, reliability, and adoption. The team supports customer, partner, and internal systems through shared patterns, tooling, and libraries.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate production backend systems for identity and audit workflows
• Drive initiatives through rollout, measurement, and operational support
• Extend custom roles and secure authorization defaults
• Create durable audit trails for user and delegated actions
• Make IAM integrations easier through tooling and shared libraries

Requirements:

• Reliable production backend engineering experience
• Complex project leadership and engineer mentoring experience
• API design fundamentals and rigor around testing
• Knowledge of OAuth, SAML, OIDC, RBAC, MFA, or SSO
• Ability to balance security, usability, and developer experience
