Position Summary

The Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration, installation, configuration, and maintenance of the College’s network, server, cloud, backup, telecommunications, and related technology infrastructure. This position has responsibility for the College’s Cisco and Cisco Meraki network infrastructure; supports server and directory services, cybersecurity, backup and recovery, endpoint imaging and deployment, and enterprise technology services; and serves as an escalation resources for complex technical issues. The position maintains documentation and standards, monitors availability and performance, coordinates with vendors, and researches improvements to infrastructure. This position will be based at the Prattville Campus. Technology and audiovisual support for the Prattville Campus events is required, including setup, testing, operation, troubleshooting, and post -event support. Evening, weekend and other after-hours work may be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Complies with all policies of the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees,the Alabama Community College System, and Central Alabama CommunityCollege.
  2. Monitor and perform capacity planning for the college’s network, servers and related IT environments.
  3. Provide reports forecasting network, hardware, and infrastructure growth requirements.
  4. Maintain confidentiality regarding information processed, stored, transmitted or accessed through College Technology systems.
  5. Function in a team oriented, collaborative environment, supporting other employees and serving as an escalation resource for complex technical issues.
  6. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures, network diagrams, equipment inventories, VLAN assignments, and IP addressing documentation.
  7. Maintain system and network standards ad develop procedures and schedules for infrastructure maintenance.
  8. Serve as a project team member supporting server, cloud, network and enterprise technology implementations across College locations.
  9. Install applications, develop administration scripts, and plan software upgrades and patches.
  10. Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot operating systems, including Windows Server and related infrastructure.
  11. Administer enterprise backup and disaster recovery systems, including ExaGrid; verify backup operations, test restores, and maintain recovery documentation.
  12. Coordinate with technology manufacturers, vendors, contractors and service providers regarding implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and product changes.
  13. Research and recommend innovative and automated approaches to system and network administration, telecommunications, and other technology services.
  14. Identify approaches that improve resources utilization, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  15. Identify opportunities to improve service quality, reliability, security, safety, cost and customer and employee satisfaction.
  16. Perform daily system and network monitoring; verify availability of infrastructure and services, review logs and verify scheduled jobs and backups.
  17. Support cybersecurity administration using Splunk, Fortinet products, firewall technologies and endpoint protection/antivirus; assist with vulnerability remediation, incident response and secure configuration.
  18. Perform periodic performance reporting to support network and system capacity planning.
  19. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, firmware updates and resource optimization.
  20. Administer Cisco and Cisco Meraki network infrastructure, including switches wireless access points, VLANs, routing, switching, network segmentation, and configurations.
  21. Apply operating system and application patches and upgrades regularly.
  22. Upgrade administrative tools and utilities and configure or add services as necessary.
  23. Maintain systems software and infrastructure firmware at appropriate supported release levels.
  24. Monitor and maintain enterprise application services and telecommunications/VoIP systems; support audiovisual, physical security and other network connected technologies as assigned.
  25. Provide scheduled maintenance for applications, server, cloud and network platforms.
  26. Deploy, image, maintain and troubleshoot College computers using Microsoft.
  27. Analyze and troubleshoot complex network, server, endpoint and application issues; coordinate outage resolution with vendors and service providers.
  28. Maintain College-wide directory, authentication and access services including Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, DNS, DHCP and permissions.
  29. Track and document projects, incidents, requests and technical working using College’s ticketing and documentation systems.
  30. Provide after hours technical support for critical network, server, security, telecommunications and other infrastructure issues as required.
  31. Establish priorities to meet schedules deadlines and operational requirements.
  32. Adhere to applicable local, state and federal policies and procedures.
  33. Provide data and report analysis supporting the College’s Institutional Effectiveness, Research and Compliance (IERC) function.
  34. Provide required technology and audiovisual support for College events held at the Prattville Campus, including setup, testing, operations, troubleshooting and post event activities. Evening weekend or other after hours work may be required based on the event schedule.
  35. Performs other duties as assigned that pertain to the position.

Qualifications

  1. Associate degree in from a regionally accredited institution is required.
  2. Two (2) years experience configuring computers for network operations, planning technology requirements, deployment and installation of computer related resources, computer network technologies, and the internet as required.
  3. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are required.
  4. Strong customer service orientation is required.
  5. Analytical and problem solving skills are required.
  6. Effective analysis and reporting skills are required.
  7. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required.
  8. Ability to work under moderate pressure of schedules, deadlines and requirements for accuracy is required.
  9. Ability to monitor, analyze and troubleshoot, test and optimize operating systems is required.
  10. Exceptional interpersonal skills with a focus on listening and questioning are required.
  11. Ability to think logically and organize and analyze data is required.
  12. Experience administering and troubleshooting enterprise networks, including Cisco and Cisco Meraki switching and wireless technologies, VLANs , routing network segmentation, DHCP and DNS is required.
  13. Experience with Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and related enterprise systems is required.
  14. Experience with enterprise back up and disaster recovery, including ExaGrid, is required.
  15. Experience with security monitoring and cybersecurity technologies, including Splunk and Fortinet products, firewall technologies, and endpoint protection/antivirus is required.
  16. Experience with Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) and Windows computer imaging and deployment is required.
  17. Experience supporting telecommunications, audiovisual technology, and live events is required.
  18. Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution is preferred.
