You will support the Navy’s Aerial Targets Program Office (PMX-208) at NAS Patuxent River. PMX-208’s mission is to advance the Navy’s combat readiness by delivering next-generation threat-representative targets. You will help support the BQM-177A Subsonic Aerial Target, which is designed to emulate subsonic anti-ship cruise missiles for Developmental and Operational Testing of major DoD weapon systems, as well as fleet training events. The BQM-177A target is currently in production, and this role leads the technical assessment of production deliveries, executes software and hardware improvement ECPs, and performs sustainment activities such as Reliability & Maintainability metrics and Engineering Investigations. Work is a local hybrid requiring on-site presence at NAS Pax and U.S. Government facilities with access to SIPR spaces.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing technical guidance and decisions regarding production, platform upgrades, and unique threat payloads in close coordination with the OEM, sub-system suppliers, and NAVAIR/external entities.
  • Leading the team on technical projects and Engineering Investigations to determine solutions for fielded systems, including Requirements Management, system specification revisions, and risk management via the NAVAIR ISEEv2 tool.
  • Generating and releasing Interim Flight Clearances (IFCs) for Test & Evaluation and fleet operations, and preparing and releasing operator’s manuals with supporting data packages.
  • Developing Statements of Work, managing system interfaces, coordinating configuration requirements, and supporting Program Management Reviews and Technical Reviews.
  • Providing engineering analysis to support technical and financial proposals for engineering change proposals (ECPs) and technical plans in support of POM issue sheets.
  • Quarterly travel required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must hold a BA/BS degree in a technical or scientific field from an accredited college or university.
  • 7+ years of general engineering experience
  • 2+ years of recent and relevant systems engineering experience.
  • Must possess a strong understanding of core systems concepts, including ECPs, flight clearance processes, general system safety products, software development, risk, and requirements management.
  • Must demonstrate strong communication skills, technical writing abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior aerial target experience is highly valued, though not required as PMX-208 will provide familiarization.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating closely with Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division, or external agencies.
  • Experience working across various acquisition timelines and evaluating technical or financial proposals.

Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess and maintain an active Secret Clearance or higher.

Physical Requirements:

  • You must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • You will occasionally need to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, and other equipment.
  • You will frequently communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations, and you must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
